Course Description

An 8 week class which introduces students to the World Wide Web (WWW) and the creation of Web pages. This hands on course will cover the basics of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). Guidelines for organizing information and principles of color, line and design as they relate to screen presentations will also be included. Students will create a WWW project which includes text, graphics, links, lists, tables, and backgrounds. HTML Editors and conversion programs will be demonstrated. I use the on screen display extensively so please make sure you can see it properly.

Official Course Outline

Recommended Text

"Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML" by Freeman and Freeman, published by O'Reilly
ISBN: 0-596-10197-X

Optional CD: Classroom students should learn all they need to know by following the classroom lectures. If you find you are struggling with the material there is a CD that contains videos demonstrating many of the techniques you must master and written step by step written instructions. The name of the CD is Creating Web Pages - HTML 1, and is self-published by Linda Hemenway.

It can be purchased at the campus bookstores where you will need to ask for the CD at the counter since, it won't be displayed on the shelf.

The CD can also be ordered online from CCNOW at:
http://www.ccnow.com/cgi-local/cart.cgi?videogeeks_01M_continue-page

Aside from the text, the only things you'll need for the class is access to a computer (MAC or PC) and a text editor such as notpad or simple text.

Homework & Grading Policy

There is a credit/no credit grading option available for this course. Unless you require a letter grade for some reason, this is strongly suggested. Students taking the course credit/no credit shall receive credit if their letter grade would be a score of "C" or better as outlined below.

These are the percentages for grades:

90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
0-59 F

Course work will be weighed as follows to determine your final grade:

2 Quizes 20%
Final Project 80%

If you cannot attend class on the day of the quiz, you must make prior arrangements with me for a makeup. I will not accept any late final presentations/projects.
